In conjunction with the Safe and Supportive Schools Collaborative, the Thurgood Marshall School of Law’s Earl Carl Institute for Legal & Social Policy at Texas Southern University is hosting this event to bring together the leaders and the do-ers in the greater Houston area who are working in the realms of advocacy, research, and education in the name of our most at-risk youth. Attendees will hear from high-profile speakers and participants who can share best practices for leading the charge toward an educational system that prioritize student safety while incorporating restorative practices to create a welcoming environment where students can flourish.

The Education Summit will take a solutions-oriented approach to current issues in education that disproportionately impact students of color, LGBTQ+ youth, and students with disabilities. Workgroup Leads will facilitate small group working sessions where participants actively deliberate on the merits and drawbacks of the current system, and more importantly, set forth a strategy for addressing those issues. The goal to “create a new agenda” will initiate a call to action to galvanize our collaborative work on these areas.
